Microteaching II: Volume and Surface Area

So I successfully made it through my second microteaching lesson. My lesson used a GeoModel and students we to generate equations for the volume and surface are of regular 3-dimensinoal shapes based on the knowledge they already had on 2-dimensional shapes. Using similar shapes and silicone surfaces, the students were able to explore on their own these two concepts.

  1. Hi Sarah,
What a lesson. If anything, you reminded me of how much i just LOVE math! (Its very hard to be sarcastic without a voice emphasis.) You did an outstanding job though, as we all can tell how much you know your content and how enthusiastic you are about getting everyone else to like math as much as you. You were constantly helping us when we needed it, a characteristic of a great teacher. Fortunately, there was only four us, and I am curious how that lesson would work with 20 or so teenagers who are probably like me and have no idea what they are doing. Perhaps using the modeling method and showing students what to do might help, as they can follow along with you and get a better idea. Awesome job again!
